question about Punjabi and tonal languages
Hi guys,
I've always been fascinated by, and particularly interested in, the study of tonal languages.
I grew up mainly with Hindi and Tamil - neither of which are tonal. So I was surprised to hear that apparently Punjabi is the only language of India that is tonal. But I'm listening to this recording, and I *think* it's Punjabi...but it doesn't seem to strike me as tonal the way for example, Chinese or Thai sounds...
Or is this just a dialect of Hindi? I don't speak Punjabi, but so much of this sounds like Hindi. At least there are many similar words.

Thanks so much you guys! I'd love to hear from native Punjab speakers as well as anyone else.
Is there a difference between the Punjabi spoken in India vs. Pakistan? Is one tonal, and the other is not?
Thanks =)
