In the Alexandria Quartet by Lawrence Durrell, there's a French phrase that occurs throughout the books: "Jamais de la vie." It appears as the name of a perfume, a popular song, and a comment by a character. I assume it means "Never in life," but wonder if anyone knows of another meaning or anything else about the phrase. The novels are set in North Africa, if that matters. Thanks!
