auction bidding

Has anyone visited auctions or seen films about it? What sort of phrases the participants usually use when they bid? Is it something like "Four dollars up"? And what does the person conducting an action say when he announces the startup price for a lot? Also, what does this person say announcing the amount of bid increment?
