First Post-- French Canadian!

My grandmother is from a little village outside Quebec and I remember that she always called our dog a nickname. I have no idea how on earth you say it, but she pronounced it "Bee-soot". I'm not sure if it's a term of endearment or a swear word (she and the dog had a unusual relationship) but if anyone can help out that would be great!
