French Term

This is probably going to be embarrassing, but I think most of us have been in the position of knowing a word on paper that we've never said aloud or knowing a word by ear that we've never seen written. This is one of the latter cases.

When I was a kid, my French-Canadian mother used a term that sounds like "aguisabe" to refer to misbehaving children.

It popped into my head the other day, and I Googled it, only to find just one person using it in the context I'm familiar with (referring to her daughter's misbehaviour in tearing her wallpaper). This makes me think both that poster and I are way off on our spelling.

So what is the word really? (Apologies in advance if it's at all rude, as my mother also considered "crotte de nez" to be a term of endearment.)
