French "R" at Beginning of Words

Is the beginning R in the first letter of a world a spit-type of sound? Like, "R" as in "trois" (trwah). I'm wondering if the beginning r is pronounced normally as in English or the normal French throat-R.

Examples:

*=Throaty/Uvula sound

How is Au revoir pronounced?

        Aw *r*evwah
          or
         Awh rev-wah

          Raidier
          Rayter

etc.
