Russian: choosing the right declension class

Hey everyone,

I'm just starting out with Russian and I can't for the life of me figure out how to tell which declension tables to use for which nouns. Is it something you just have to learn by heart for each individual noun? I already understand how to determine the gender for nouns.

I know this is probably a silly question, but I've been Googling for two days, and I still haven't got it figured out. I'd appreciate any help anyone could give me.

Thanks!
