Can a speaker of Chinese understand (some) written Japanese? Or, the other way around, can a speaker of Japanese understand (some) written Chinese? And if they can, to what extent?
Let's say, for example, a newspaper article. I guess they wouldn't be able to decipher it word for word, but would they be able to understand, in broad strokes, what the article is about? How about a simple children's book?
Just curious!
