What's this writing?

Hello to all linguaphiles.
I got this piece of ceramic occasionally and I wonder what are the letters on it. Not even sure in what direction is it going. Unfortunately I have no info on its origin, and the shape of letters looks like so many types of writing...
Anyhow, maybe someone can identify it.

Regards,
Van

UPD: Thanx to all who answered. So the most voices are for Devanagri, and I'd go with that.
