Star name?

I was looking at a list of stars with their Arabic names and came across Alniyat (I've also seen Al-niyat; I'm not sure if this is a typographical preference or if one is a more correct romanization than the other), the translation of which is given as "support/shield of the heart". Out of curiosity and the fact that I've never studied Arabic, this is in any way an accurate translation? Is the translation more abstract and archaic, and are there alternate meanings or translations of this name? Additionally, does this name have a grammatical gender, and would it be appropriate for a personal name?

Thanks!
