referring to a significant other as brother/sister

My aunt and uncle do this (I'm Chinese), and I know that Koreans may refer to an older boyfriend as "oppa". Are there other languages where this occurs?

I'm wondering specifically about Japanese, and if it would be strange to refer to an older boyfriend as "onii-chan". I assume it's not as common as in Korean, but would it still be acceptable?
