Growing up, my mother would often threaten or inform me that I was in "dutch." I thought nothing of it; I knew it meant that I was in trouble. My grandmother had used it with my mother while she was growing up as well. So, it was (and still is) a perfectly normal word to me to indicate that one is in trouble, or an undesirable situation.

However, I have yet to run across anyone outside the family who uses or has even heard the word used in this context. I'm not sure if this is a feature of some dialect or if my family is just strange!

I was raised in western Pennsylvania, within the Pittsburghese dialect region, if that is any help.

Has anyone else heard/used the word applied in the same context before?
