Quick question

This doesn't necessarily have to do with linguistics, but I'm having difficulty finding it elsewhere and I have a feeling someone here is bound to know it or where I should look. Does anyone know the term for when a father or elder passes on wisdom to the hero/son in an epic tale? I'd greatly appreciate any help!
