Mandarin Accents?

Can anyone post a general synthesis of the difference between Mandarin accents? Or post a link to something that explains it? By accent I mean regional pronunciation. For example, I could map out different pronunciations of Portuguese in Brazil, differ Brazilian Portuguese pronunciation from the European variant, I can tell if a French person is from the West or the East (can't tell much more than that, though), and I can differentiate between Rioplatense, European, and Latin American Spanish.

What differs Mandarin pronunciation from region to region? I can easily tell the difference between a Beijing-ren and someone from another part of of China by the Beijing pronunciation of "(y)ing," but nothing much besides that.
