In my "Philosophy of Law" class today my Professor told us that US Americans refer to "der Staat" not as "the State" (which would be a false friend) but rather as "the Government". I definately thought he was wrong, and it would be something more like "the Nation". I would translate "the Government" to be "die Regierung". What do you think?
