Greetings linguaphiles!

Do you guys know what some of the best theories or writings on a universal grammar are? Like ones that are well etched out and haven't had umpteen holes irreversibly impaled into them?

Do you know of good syntactic or morphosyntactic theories that could be used to formulate an understanding of any language? (This is more what I'm curious about.) Like ones that could be used to understand the structure and meaning of English just as well as Navajo.

Names of theories or actual books are what I'm seeking.

Thanks!
