English usage - from an article

Hello hello, I would like to ask native English speakers the meaning of the following passage.  This article is about the Biometrics Recognition (future? identity check system), so it contains a lot of technical terms but what I want to know is the meaning of some plain words and expressions that are used different way.  I've asked one quesion about two or three weeks ago and this time is another quesion.  I am now trying to translate the last half of  this article.  This is my assignment from my translation class, so it's just for my self understandings... Thank you very much in advance!

1) what did Hitachi find?  USAGE in PC authentication…why they used the word find…  could you write in more plain sentence for me?  Thanks

2) due to its small size… since finger is small, smaller than hand or other parts of body, it is more convenient? sorry could you please explain to me about the meaning of this part? Thanks
