Vegan hanzi?

Does this really mean vegan:

Somehow I doubt it. As I recall from my Chinese classes vegetarian is someone who eats vegetables, which my dictionary confirms: 吃素的人 ［chī sù de rén]. So what does that character mean, if not vegan?
