Baby swear-words?

So I've been reading Simon R Green's Nightside books recently, and they've got British characters and are written by a British author. I speak American English, and I've been able to get most of the differences, but one phrase has me stumped. A couple of times over the course of the books he has characters curse in a string of "baby swear-words." I can't for the life of me figure out what on Earth this means, and how they're different from, well, regular swear words. Is it like the difference between hell/ass and fuck, or is it something else? And the characters always seem to use a string or series or something of them. Is there something about them that requires several of them to be used in rapid succession, or is it just the author's turn of phrase? Any help in clearing this up would be appreciated. Thanks!
