I am a CRAZY linguist who has (with the help of two other equally crazy linguists) decided to attempt to learn MaiMai (Maymay) - a bantu language of Somali refugees. Well, we're not really going to learn it, we're just studying 3 aspects.
Here's the problem. It's not a written language.
I can't find ANYTHING written on it... not wikipedia, not google scholar, not jstore, not wilson web, not anything!!!! All I really need right now is some basic background info - more than what I can get from the ever fantastic Ethnologue! The other things that I have found don't relate to maymay specifically, but bantu families to begin with. Not so helpful since even amongst themselves they're quite different.
I know it has several different names: Af-Maay, Af-May, Af-Maymay.
The only thing that I can find is an NPR Day to Day little bit from Jan. 17th 2007. I've already emailed them to see if I can't get their sources.
So... that's a cool story right?
We're studying spatial relations, referential density, and other motion events. Sounds INSANE right? It is.
Any help would be super cool!
