language planning and policy

I've been told that I've to take a module on Language Planning and Policy next semester but I have no idea what to expect out of it.

Does anyone have any readings to share which might aid my understanding of the topic? Or if you could share what you've learnt I'll really appreciate it.

I've read some stuff and came across big words like "essentialism" and "language rights" but I do not know where they fit in. Would anyone be so kind as to direct my path?
