"Override" - French translation?

On

learn_french, someone asked about the French equivalent to the English word "override", and I'm thinking this forum will have more suggestions.

The original post asked for a way to translate "to pass an override".  The first two responses boil down to "taxes don't work that way in France" ... but there hasn't been an actual answer.  So now I'm curious!  I'm sure the French can able to say "The US Congress voted to override President Bush's veto" -- but how?  Thanks in advance.

By the way, the original post is at http://community.livejournal.com/learn_french/443250.html.
