The male default, and why this excludes women

Found an interesting blog entry from the F word blog. I for one wholeheartedly agree with the writer.

The male default, and why this excludes women.

Any comments?

Another good example, I think, from a completely different language family, is Arabic. If a group of people consists exclusively of women, the feminine article and noun are used, but if there is just a single man in the group, a male article and noun. This change does not happen if one woman appears in the midst of an all-male group.

EDIT - really bad typo.
