British Accents

Do any of you know of any research that's been regarding the popularity of British spokespeople/announcers in the US? It seems lately that they've become more popular than ever, especially in the realm of informercials. Where in the past, they used to be manned by big hairy bearded men who talk very loudly or Americans who slightly resemble Frankenstein. There seems to be a recent proliferation of Brits and I'm wondering what seems to be influencing this trend? It can't all be boiled down to David Beckham invasion's of the US, can it? ;)
