American to British help

Hi, I'm in a bit of a bind. I'm writing a story that takes place in England, and I'm using English police officers. But, I need a word that is as close to Crime Investigators as you have. Any suggestions?

Asking this because an English friend of mine said they don't HAVE Crime Investigators/Criminal Investigators or CIs there. I'm American.

Thanks.

Edit: I got what I needed, thanks!
