Question about Latin

Is this phrase correct grammar-wise or just directly and badly translated from English?

Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum viditur

If it is, could someone then provide a correct translation? I'm planning on having it tattooed on my own skin and I don't want to be put next to all those morons with "hello I'm gay" kanji* and "badly translated, but it's foregn and kickass" ink

*A fiend of a friend of a friend of mine had that happen to him, he thought it meant "I am strong" or something
