articles

I can explain why there are no articles in this sentence:

He went to school in San Francisco and every Sunday morning he went to church.

But why is there in article in this one:

He had to earn the money he needed to go to the cinema with his girlfriend.

And what about these two sentences:

He said that he has always been interested in computers.

People were looking for some software to make it easier for them to work on the computer.

Is there even an explanation?
