תנ״ך

hello,
i have a question referring to the Hebrew language - i know the Modern Hebrew is not exactly the same as Biblical Hebrew [AFAIK, the Biblical had no grammatical tenses, but aspects, and certainly there are also some changes in phonology and vocabulary].
my question is - is the Bible which is used nowadays in Israel written just like it used to be thousands of years ago, in Biblical Hebrew [so that no word is changed], or is it "translated" into a more modern version of the language?
if it is not "modernized", would the language of the Bible be understandable for a reader, who would know only modern Hebrew and would not had any Jewish religious education?

thanks in advance.
