Another Language or Backwards Recording?

This weekend I watched This Short Film By Steven Wright. This is a truncated version, but I'm only interested in one scene. At around 5:09 he claims that the language being spoken is German. It clearly isn't, but I can't tell if it's another language or speech recorded backwards. Any ideas?
