the purpose of this: if i hear someone struggling a lot in english at work i'll listen carefully to see if they're francophone... and i think we're getting a lot of spanish-speakers. i also think a good deal of them may be from quebec. it's the #3 language there, but has very little presence here. they know the drill at my restaurant but speak very little english. that's not so out of the ordinary. it's when they say "salade" and "may-nezz", or when their school-aged kids speak less english than they do, that pings my quebec tourist radar. hmmm.
