laoris?

I am hoping someone might be able to tell me the meaning of the word "laoris" in any language. English dictionaries have no answers, and Google searches are bringing up lots of foreign language pages that I can't read, once I control the search parameters to exclude a certain band. (The use of the word I'm trying to figure out predates the band.) Latin and French pages are turning up, and when for giggles I searched it as "laori," I hit many Italian pages as well.

Any ideas? Some evidence suggests the word might be related to plants or trees or other flora, but that could simply be coincidental.
