a small pronunciation question and a larger one

[For once I have remembered a question for this community long enough to post it!]

1. How is Gilead (Hebrew: גִּלְעָד according to Wikipedia) supposed to be pronounced? (If it's different in English and Hebrew, it'd be cool to know both.)

2. So, I didn't major in Linguistics in college, and I sort of still regret it, so I'd like to take some beginner courses in phonetics and syntax etc next year. I'll be living in New York City - do you guys know of any programs there that offer night classes in Linguistics? Are there any specific programs you'd recommend?

Thanks!
