I’m currently learning Italian right now, and my school has recently implemented the immersion method for teaching it (although I’m not sure if they’re using it exclusively for Italian or what). Our textbook is entirely in Italian and the idea is, essentially, that we’re supposed to figure concepts out intuitively and only then are we provided with explanations. I, personally, quite enjoy doing it like this and I’ve found that I’m learning quite a bit just by being forced to read and comprehend lots of material. But, on the other hand, I don’t really have anything to compare my experience against -- I’ve never taken a language course where the textbook was primarily in English (my native language). All I know is that my classmates seemed to either love it or completely despise it.
So, my question is: how much experience do you all have with this immersion technique? Prefer it? Dislike it? Find it more or less difficult? Thoughts? Opinions?
