A Pair of Jeans

Hello all!

I was just wondering, how would you explain the meaning and form of "a pair of jeans" to students who are just starting to learn English? In all of their native tongues "jeans" is always singular. I know how I will explain this to my students in class, but I have to analyse the phrase in the simplest terms for a teacher of mine and I just don't know how to do it.

If someone could help me out with this, it would be very much appreciated!!

Thanks,
"Lilith"
