On my second day of amusing myself with Persian and reading is frustrating me. I guess I could just read the romanization, but that feels deeply wrong. On top of that, easypersian.com isn't giving me what I need to learn how to read things well, nor is it helping me write notes out by hand.

Help me out with websites that can really break down the writing system or help with writing by hand?

Old French

Does anyone know how the Old French name Soumilloit is pronounced? I read somewhere that Modern French lait was pronounced more like [laIθ] in Old French. Is the final t in Soumilloit also a theta?

On a related note, I don't imagine Soumilloit is used as a name in Modern French (it may only be attested in a document from Scotland), but if it were, would it look the same? If not, how would it change? I can imagine how it'd sound based on the spelling, but I don't know much of anything about the transition from Old French to Modern French, and for all I know it would change substantially.

edit: According to this site, it would have started out as something like [soʊmilʲoɪθ], or possibly [soʊmiʎoɪθ], eventually becoming more like [sumilʲwe], [sumiʎwe].

Urdu/Pashto terms for "Hamster?

This is certainly a weird request, but what are the Urdu and Pasho terms for Hamster, and how do you pronounce them?

It's a female hamster, in particular. I searched a couple dictionaries and I cant' find it. The closest thing I can find is "mouse," and a hamster isn't a mouse! :P

Reliable translations of this quote, please..

I'd like to get this quote translated into as many languages as possible. Thanks so much in advance if you can help!

I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything I will not refuse to do the something I can do. - Edward Everett Hale*

*At first I had a slightly different English version so these translations may be slightly off, but I'm not too concerned as long as the same basic message is communicated.

If you'd like to make corrections to any I've received, feel free; however, please keep in mind that I got these from native speakers. I prefer translations from native speakers, but if you're proficient in a language, I accept other translations as well. However I will [mostly] not take corrections for ones above from non-native speakers since that wouldn't make any sense [unless you're a professor or have lived in a country speaking the language for some time]. For instance, I speak Spanish, but I still had someone else do this translation for me to be really sure since Spanish is my second language.

Thanks for any help you can offer!!
