tetraphobia or tetraphilia? ;)

according to many sources, including Polish TV yesterday, on January 4th, 2013, many Chinese couples got married, because this date sounds like "Love you forever" in Chinese.
i can't speak Chinese, but it caused me to wonder if it has something to do with the well-known tetraphobia in East Asian countries, namely if the "4" in the date could be heard as part of a compound meaning literally "till death", but translated as "forever"?
thanks in advance for any help, and i wish you all a happy new year. :)
