Troubles with Simplified Chinese pinyin input on Snow Leopard

Hi all!

I recently finally got around to upgrading my computer from Leopard to Snow Leopard, and I noticed that there have been some changes to Chinese language input （simplified - I don't use traditional much but it seems to be the same), and they are frustrating me!

I am hoping that there is just some setting I haven't seen yet, but in the past, when selecting which character from the list you'd like, you could use the side to side arrow keys to scroll across the list, and now it seems that you have to use the corresponding number key. Like, if I want to type 联系, I can't type lianxi and then hit the arrow to select 练习 instead of 联系, I have to hit 2. Maybe I'll get used to it, but it just seems to slow me down?
