Hi everybody,

There is a sentence I cannot understand properly. What does run down mean there?

Boils, carbuncles and furuncles are different degrees of the same condition, a septic infection of the skin and the integuments with the staphylococcus; they are due to being 'run down', and are often associated with diabetes and kidney diseases.

Many thanks in advance.
